This festive fairies artwork was created to compliment my fairy tree house artwork that I completed for Templar Publishing. Funny enough Templar liked it so much they decided to make up a dummy book using it and took it to the Bologna, London, and Frankfurt book fairs, along with the fairy tree house artwork!
Festive fairies: my inspiration was of course Christmas, hence the baubles and other christmas decorations hanging on the branches of the tree. The whole point of this artwork is that it had to be crammed with detail, and so I tried it put as many different things in the tree as I could think of that had a Christmas or fairy theme. There are also one or two animals if you look close enough!
The artwork was drawn using nib pen and coloured inks. I tend to use coloured inks because they scan a little better than watercolours. However I am planning on doing another sample piece shortly that will be done using watercolours, because you do get some subtly different effects with watercolour, which can be very pretty.
Unfortunately neither project was picked up at the book fairs and the feedback as that both books were going to be too expensive to publish in the current economic climate, which was unfortunate. It was a particularly complicated idea, because both books folded and created a whole doll’s house!
