Cute little girl
I have been working on developing a softer more fluid style using watercolours, which I haven’t used for many years and after a few false starts produced this picture of a cute little girl.
Cute little girl: It is actually part of a much larger image that I did a few years ago for Templar Publishing all about fairies. However I always felt it would have looked better in another medium and so as I have some spare time at the moment, I am redoing the entire image. I will blog about this soon and put it within my portfolio on-line. I decided to treat myself to some Schmink Artist’s quality watercolour paint from my favourite and very old art shop near the British Museum: L. Cornelissen and Sons. I would highly recommend them. Apart from the fanastic stock they hold, it is very old inside, with wooden panelling – wonderful. By the way I haven’t got shares in it or anything, I just think it is a wonderful Aladdin’s cave and worth a visit, if you happen to be in London.
Anyway back to this picture! I used by usual nib pen technic to draw the picture out, but deliberately worked in a loser more fluid way. I then experimented with wet-in-wet and another technique that allows the pigment to pool towards the edge, which is a lovely effect.
