Illustrating older children
Illustrating older children is something that as an illustrator, you are going to do at some stage in your career. I have had the opportunity to create illustrations of children and in very different styles. Some of the clients have been Templar Publishing, Ivy Press, Kidspace Adventures Ltd, Buster Books, and Oxford University Press. Just to name a few publishers!
Illustrating older children: Some of this artwork you may have seen before, but some are not currently on my website or have been blogged about before. They have been created using a range of art materials, from pencil and watercolour, through to coloured inks and even some digital work too!
The styles do vary quite a bit, although you can tell that I have created all of them. This tends to happen when a client wants something a little different to what you’ve done before and so you have to develop a new way of working, just for the project that the client has in mind. Some times my style has to be tweaked because of the sort of book I’m illustrating, whether it’s a pop-up gift book or a non-fiction book, where detail is very important.
