Sir Quentin Blake
Sir Quentin Blake is coming back to the UK from France, where he now lives to accept a Knighthood from the Queen and has been asked to do a talk at Sidcup Library in south East London. Guess who’s also been asked to give a talk alongside him? Me!
Sir Quentin Blake: I am still a little shocked and very flattered to be asked to also talk about my life as an illustrator. Quentin originally came from the Bexley area, and I live next door in the Bromley area, and as Bexley and Bromley libraries are now joined, and as I’m local they’ve asked me to speak too. In fact we’ve been billed together! My only concern is that Quentin’s talk appears to be free and people have got to pay for mine, but it’s only £2.00 – not my idea everyone.
I have decided to not only talk about my work, style and how I have developed my work, but also the process of how a book starts with a concept and eventually becomes a book you can read and enjoy. I think people are interested in what happens behind the scenes and so I am hoping to take paper maquettes with me (these are used to design pop-up books), original artwork, and some of my published books. I hope to make it as interesting as possible. I do not have anywhere near Quentin’s kudos, but hope to make it an interesting and entertaining talk with lots of pictures. So I hope to see anyone local at my talk.
