Bee
To bee or not to bee, that is the question…
Sorry Shakespeare, but I couldn’t resist that one! Today I have been mainly drawing a bee. It’s a character sketch I have been asked to work on. Now drawing a bee is not that tricky, but adding expression, emotion and a bit of personality takes a little longer. I thought I’d share my scribbled bees today. The final coloured up artwork is the one I rather like. I think he looks like a young bee, full of fun and play. I have just coloured this in Photoshop, using watercolour paints. Of course, it may not be totally nailed yet, but its on the way (I hope)!
The Bee’s knees
Bees are buzz-tastic and without them our crops would not be pollinated nor would our fruit, in fact we would be far worse without them. Bees are not only extremely important for humans, but also for entire ecosystems to function. As we know, bees allow plants to reproduce through pollination. These plants contribute to the food system by feeding animals – aside from humans – such as birds and insects. [one green planet]
Bee-tastic garden
I try to do my bit, by choosing plants in my garden that bees love, which I hope will go towards them thriving. Number one on that list is Lavender (which luckily I absolutely love), you can also plant Viper’s Bugloss (which sounds like a dastardly villain in a picture book), Hawthorn, Bluebells (I get loads of those and didn’t plant a single one), Borage and Rosemary. Most of these plants happen to be blue or purple. Bees are attracted to blue flowers.

So love our bees! And remember they only sting as a last resort, as to do so is, well, suicidal for the little bee. Wasps on the other hand…ggrrrr!
