Digitally hand painted
Digitally hand painted: sounds like a contradiction, but it isn’t. This image was drawn with ink, painted and then digitally enhanced. It is has been taken from my first picture book, involving the adventures of a boy and his pet puffin. It has been created using traditional nib pen and indian ink. I then painted it using French watercolour paint. Finally I digitally added texture and pattern. Great fun to do!
Digitally hand painted: This kind if mixed media picture is something I have wanted to try for some time! Can’t help being keen, as this is something different for me. All artists like to push themselves in new directions. It is actually an illustration I have already created using nib pen, indian ink and watercolour. However I was keen to see if I could add to it digitally and create some new effects. In this illustration I have kept close to my conventional style. I think I prefer this image to my digitally coloured illustration recently added to this site. I still like to see some traditional elements to a picture.
If you look closely you will notice that some of the butterflies have patterned wings and there are textures added elsewhere. Those were digitally added to the artwork, and I think they blend in quite well with the conventionally painted illustration.
This digitally hand painted image has been taken from one of three picture books I have written. They are currently being considered by a London based publisher. However getting a book published is as rare as hen’s dentures, let alone teeth! Obviously I am really hoping the project will go ahead and I would be happy to work either conventionally or digitally, whichever they prefer! Please God, as my mother would say. @stone_lyn
