Yogi Frog…
A frog who probably knows his Anura Aura! Sorry, couldn’t resist a little Latin joke. This is a character I created about two years ago now and is already in my online folio somewhere? If you spot it, let me know. Anyway, I’m writing about this little green chap now, because the client has just come back to me and is ready to go full steam ahead. Sometimes commissions whizz in and whizz out, while others take years to mature like a good, stinky cheese.

This book is a dream to work on. I love, love, LOVE, illustrating animals and this book is full of them. It’s also a very funny story and so that’s me on board straight away. The irresistible combination of wonderful animals and humour!
This frog will self destruct in three seconds… yuck!
I cannot give too much away, as that would be very unprofessional of me, but as the client has allowed me to post the character sketches on my website and social media, I feel it’s OK to share them in a post today. Additionally, some thoughts on text design, because there will be some text in this book that will need incorporating into the artwork and I can’t wait to play with that. No examples yet though, sorry!
Now, although these illustrations are partly coloured, they are just sketches that I added colour to, as a way to help the client visualise her main character better. Sometimes I do if it’s necessary. The sketches have just been digitally coloured, just for speed and you get an instant, bold colour palette. I suspect for this project the entire book will be digitally coloured, hand-drawn and some additional hand-painted elements.
Hopefully later this year (froggy fingers crossed), I’ll be able to share some highlights from the book itself, so watch this water lily pad!
