Go like Matisse
Go like Matisse seemed the right heading for this blog post. It has been a while since I blogged, because I have been luckily really busy! Now why Matisse?
Go like Matisse: I am taking Matisse as my inspiration today, not for his style but because of his tenacity. Despite deteriorating eye sight he continued to work as an artist. He changed his style to one that suited his disability.
I too am disabled. As well as a progressive eye disease, I also suffer from Multiple Sclerosis. My MS is just starting to effect my right hand, and alas I am right-handed. So like Matisse, I am going to change my style. No more ink is the answer.
So having booked a portfolio consultation with the fabulous Fig Taylor at the AOI, I intend to come out all guns blazing with a new style. It will still be very recognisable as me, but with a gentle tweak.
The way forward is pencil. Here are some examples of my graphite pencil work. I will be adding colour ones soon…
